How quickly and how long
When you smoke or vaporise, you breathe in the substances and feel the effects within a few seconds to minutes. When you smoke or vaporise, the effects are at their most intense in the first 2 hours. After that they slowly wear off; after 3 to 6 hours most effects have gone, but you are not yet sober then.
Different for everyone
Not every body breaks the substances down equally fast. How long you are under the influence differs from person to person and also depends on how much and how often you use. Someone who uses a lot every day is often under the influence for longer than someone who has had a few puffs, and so may not drive for longer either.
Your lungs
Burning hash or weed releases about 4 to 5 times more tar than a cigarette. That is harmful to the lungs and possibly carcinogenic. People who smoke regularly can suffer from coughing, asthma or bronchitis.
Your heart
A faster heartbeat or palpitations are among the unwanted effects. The risk of heart problems is always there when you use and is greater if you smoke it with tobacco. People with cardiovascular disease run a higher risk.
THC vapes
A THC vape is a device with which you inhale THC as a vapour, often from a liquid or oil. You feel the effect quickly and it lasts about 3 to 6 hours. Like ordinary vapes, THC vapes can cause harm.
